History and Mission
UMANG – An initiative towards rehabilitation of
persons with disability
On 4th Dec 2005, parents of 50 children with disabilities met with a
goal to change the world for their children and decided that with the
support of trained and experienced professionals, a new service must
be started for persons with disabilities. In a short span of time, a
detailed plan was devised and an organization called
‘UMANG’ was conceived to provide a range of services
for persons with cerebral palsy, mental challenges, multiple
disabilities, autism and other neurological conditions.
Consequently, 2nd January 2006 marked the first chapter
in the history of ‘Umang’.
Sixty children attended classes on this very first day of the school.
The atmosphere was lively, colorful, vibrant and full of energy and
enthusiasm, which has become a regular feature of everyday life at Umang. It was on this day
the newly enrolled students, staff, parents, volunteers and well
wishers started a new journey together with a mission to ensure the
inclusion of persons with disabilities in every facet of society.
Umang
is supported by the most qualified, highly experienced and committed team of
experts in Rajasthan. They were instrumental and vital in
establishing Umang
within a period of one month.
The state government granted recognition on special grounds and many
other organizations offered help and support.
The response from everyone was overwhelming and unbelievable. By the
month of July 2006, number of students enrolled grew from 60 to 105
and its growing.
From a few services
offered initially, a range of important services have been
systematically added and made functional in a very short duration.
