Home Management and
Counseling
Home management and counseling services are for parents,
care givers and children with disability who cannot attend
the centre for special education at Umang. The focus is to
benefit children with disabilities
-
Who are unable to reach the campus on regular basis
e.g., outstation clients
-
Are too severe to benefit from a regular program
-
Are enrolled in a mainstream school and need support for
special needs.
Each child is assessed and an individual program is
developed with clear short term goals. Care givers and
parents are then trained to carry out these specific
activities as per the respective programs. Regular follow
ups are maintained according to the need and convenience.
Counseling and guidance form a major part of this program.
Counseling
Counseling services through trained counselors are
provided to children with disabilities, care givers,
parents, siblings and other family members to facilitate
and improve the over all life of children with
disabilities.
The aim is to facilitate sound and positive decisions on
child's treatments and education by providing information
on choices and options available. The counseling services
has been instrumental in offering support to parents and
families in times of intense distress by enabling them to
cope with emotional set backs, help adjusting to the
disability as well as to understand what the condition is
and how the quality of life could be best enhanced.
Whenever necessary the children are also referred to other
medical professionals and specialists for investigations
and treatment. |
