Education Program:
Presently, the education program is offered through
academic, non-academic and functional groups and follows
an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student.
The students are allocated to a particular group according
to the scientific assessment of their performance and
ability. A brief description of the educational groups is
as follows:
Academic group: Accredited by the National Institute of
Open Schooling (NIOS), New Delhi, the academic groups
follow the common curriculum of open basic education
recommended by NIOS. It prepares the students to appear
for open board examination of level-A (3rd Std.), Level-B
(5th Std.) Level C (8th Std.)
Functional Education: Students in this category follow
curriculum specially designed to make them independent.
The curriculum consists of reading, writing and
understanding of Hindi and English languages; functional
mathematics covering money management, time management,
various measurements, basic mathematical operations, use
of calculator etc; awareness of environment, which covers
general information on topics like water, plants, animals,
nutrition, weather, geography etc. In addition to this,
pre-vocational skills such as art, craft, computer,
pre-cooking skills, packing, recycling of paper, needle
works etc. are a crucial part of the curriculum.
Special Groups: The objective of special groups is to
train students with severe disability to live independent
life by training them in activities of daily living, skill
development, communication skills, self reliance, social
behavior and interaction, pre-vocational training and
awareness of environment.
Day care: Day care services are offered to students above
the age of 16 years who cannot cope with any of the above
services. The objective of the program is to enhance the
quality of life by enabling such students to interact with
peers and by building their communication and life skills
in a non formal environment.
Children with autism are allocated suitable classes after
assessing their needs. They are taught through the TEACH
and PECS approach. |
